Project Lead the Way

There is a critical shortage of engineers entering the profession at a time when technology is constantly changing. According to Project Lead the Way ,"The number of job openings is increasing due to the surge in the technical fields; however, today more than 1.3 million engineering-related jobs are left unfilled."

Project Lead the Way is not-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses for middle and high school students. Currently, over 250,000 students in 2300 high school and middle schools in all 50 states are enrolled in Project Lead the Way courses.

Catholic Memorial High School is currently writing a grant for funds to begin the implementation of the Project Lead the Way curriculum. Tentatively, Catholic Memorial High School will offer the introductory Project Lead the Way course with the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. The four-year curriculum will include the following courses:

  • Year One: Introduction to Engineering
  • Year Two: Principles of Engineering
  • Year Three: Digital Electronics
  • Year Four: Engineering Design

The grant will be submitted in November, 2008 with an announcement in January of 2009. For more information, please contact Dr. Mark Schmitt, Principal, at 262-542-7101, extension 207.
